With 50 years in the baking and specialty food business, we believe in maintaining our commitment to serving only the highest quality baked goods. We never use palm oil, artificial ingredients, preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, dyes, or chemicals.
We began making Benne Wafter tea cookies thirty years ago. In the mid-1770s, West African slaves brought here against their will managed to bring a small amount of Benne Seeds, or Sesame Seeds, to the Charleston area. The seeds were first pressed to make oil for cooking, but eventually, Benne Wafers were created and quickly became the Lowcountry's signature treat. Benne Wafters are said to bring good luck and fortune to those who receive them as gifts. We now offer tea cookies featuring four delicious flavors - Charleston Lemon Coolers, Charleston Pecan, Old Fashioned Gingersnaps, and our original Benne Wafers.
